9 Years Ago, Red Bull Became OG's Title Partner: The Story of One of the Most Successful Alliances in Esports

On July 29, 2017, Red Bull officially announced the start of its partnership with OG—an organization that was already considered one of the strongest in Dota 2 at the time. This collaboration became a landmark event not only for both parties but for the entire esports industry, as it was one of the first instances where a global brand of such scale integrated so deeply into a team's life.

The history of OG began in 2015 after the disbandment of the Monkey Business roster. The organization was founded by Johan "N0tail" Sundstein, Tal "Fly" Aizik, and their partners. In its very first year of existence, the team made a loud statement by winning the Frankfurt Major, and later the Manila Major and Boston Major. OG became the first four-time Major champion in the history of Dota 2, laying the foundation for its future successes.

It was the rapid development of the organization that attracted the attention of Red Bull, which was actively expanding its presence in esports.

On July 29, 2017, Red Bull officially introduced OG as its new partner. Along with this, the team changed its recognizable green logo to a new emblem featuring blue and red colors and the signature Red Bull bulls.

The partnership went far beyond standard sponsorship. The team participated in numerous advertising campaigns, documentary videos, and media projects by Red Bull, which significantly increased its popularity far beyond Dota 2.

It was under the Red Bull OG brand that the organization experienced the most successful period in its history.

After an unsuccessful season and the loss of several key players before The International 2018, few believed in the team. However, the revamped roster led by N0tail, ana, Topson, Ceb, and JerAx created one of the biggest sensations in esports history by winning the main tournament of the year.

Just a year later, OG set a record that was long considered unattainable—the team became the first in Dota 2 history to defend their title as The International champions, winning TI 2019 as well.

Two victories at the world's most prestigious tournament, numerous championships at top-tier events, and millions of fans made the alliance between OG and Red Bull one of the most successful partnerships in esports history.

Despite almost nine years of collaboration, the contract between the parties ended on January 1, 2026. Representatives of OG later confirmed that Red Bull had offered to extend the partnership, but the organization decided to return to its own identity and restored its classic green logo.

The return of the historical logo was warmly welcomed by the team's long-time fans, for whom the green emblem is associated with OG's first major victories.

The story of OG and Red Bull became an example of how collaboration between an esports organization and a global brand can go far beyond standard sponsorship. It helped popularize esports among a wider audience and turned OG into one of the most recognizable clubs in the world.

Even after the end of the partnership, the alliance of OG and Red Bull remains a symbol of an era that gave fans some of the most emotional moments in Dota 2 history.
