A series reboot of RoboCop has been officially approved by Amazon’s new head of television Peter Friedlander, though Hollywood is still waiting for clarity on his broader vision.
More than six months after the former Netflix scripted chief for the U.S. and Canada took over global TV at Amazon, the industry is still trying to understand his long-term strategy. Since starting on October 6, he has yet to fully build out his executive team and continues to untangle the complex corporate structure of Prime Video left behind by previous leadership.
So far, Friedlander has approved several long-developing projects. Among them is a reboot of RoboCop, along with a series order for «Sex Criminals», which had previously been passed on.
However, these moves have not been enough to reassure industry insiders. The key role of head of scripted content remains unfilled, which is seen as a critical step in shaping the platform’s future. As one agent put it, «Even with Peter coming in, it’s still a byzantine place to get a straight answer of what the vision is and who to take stuff to. It’s chaotic and confusing».
Friedlander is also working to rebuild internal morale after multiple rounds of restructuring. He inherited a team that has undergone significant organizational changes, adding to the current uncertainty.
Still, sources say the slow pace is raising concerns.
«People are mystified by the sheer amount of time it’s taken», — another agent noted.
Six months into his tenure, a clear vision has yet to emerge, which is unusual by industry standards. Internally, confusion persists, with one insider saying, «No one knows what to do».
Despite this, industry representatives remain cautiously optimistic about Friedlander’s leadership, even as patience begins to wear thin.
As a Reminder, PlayStation Studios removes some references to PC from its website.
