The Finnish company Rovio Entertainment, best known for the Angry Birds series, has announced the development of a brand-new free-to-play football simulator for mobile devices. To support the project, the studio has opened a vacancy for a General Manager position at its office in Barcelona.
Rovio is currently assembling a dedicated development team in Barcelona, focusing on specialists with deep knowledge of sports games and experience working on large-scale F2P projects.
This is not Rovio’s first attempt to enter the football genre. Back in 2016, during UEFA Euro 2016, the company collaborated with New Star Games on a project called Angry Birds Football. The game entered soft launch on April 25, 2016, but its global release was eventually canceled. The project was officially shut down on December 15, 2016, due to poor technical performance and failure to meet publisher expectations.
The new initiative, however, is reportedly not connected to the Angry Birds franchise and is expected to become a standalone football title.
As a reminder, new matchups for Unbroken UA Season 2 were recently announced.
