A user under the pseudonym @NachoRB10 published an open letter to Ubisoft on X and Reddit proposing to finance the revival of the canceled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. The author stated that they were ready to provide €5 million without demanding a share of the profits, intellectual property rights, or creative control over the project.
At present, the author's identity and whether they actually have the stated amount remain unconfirmed, while Ubisoft has refrained from official comments and has not yet provided a contact for submitting a formal proposal.
The remake project went through a long and complicated development cycle before its final cancellation:
- September 2020: The remake was officially announced, with an initial release planned for January 2021.
- Delays and Developer Changes: After multiple delays, the project was handed over to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio that created the original game in 2003.
- January 2026: As part of a large-scale restructuring, Ubisoft announced the cancellation of six games, including the Sands of Time remake, four unannounced projects, and one mobile game.
Representatives of the Prince of Persia team stated that the cancellation occurred because the project's quality did not meet the franchise's standards and completing it would require excessive financial and time investments. At the same time, the company emphasized that the franchise had not been abandoned.
The proposed €5 million is considered insufficient for the full development of a modern game, so the proposal is viewed more as an initial budget for assessing the viability of a revival.
The gaming community reacted to the initiative with skepticism. Many fans doubt that the amount is realistic for modern game development and believe that releasing a port or remaster of the original game would be more appropriate than a full remake. Further developments depend entirely on Ubisoft's decision on whether to enter into official negotiations.
As a reminder, Registration is now open for EGAMES DUBAI27, a global schools esports tournament with finals in Dubai.
