Arc System Works Revealed Details for Fighting Game MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls — 20 Fighters, 4v4 Mechanics, and Playstyles

Studio Arc System Works, known for developing Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and Dragon Ball FighterZ, shared details about its new team-based fighting game MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. The game will offer a starting roster of 20 iconic Marvel superheroes and villains, a unique 4v4 team battle format with a single shared health bar, as well as the ability to create custom fighter combinations.

Team battles in MARVEL Tōkon are built around a specific form of tag-team mechanics:

The base roster consists of 20 characters divided into 5 official thematic teams. Players can use premade lineups or freely mix and match any fighters. Beyond the main roster, the developers announced Season 1 DLC, which will include Cyclops and Phoenix, with two more fighters' names to be revealed later.

Official teams and their specific playstyles:

Amazing Guardians (Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Peni Parker): A lineup with a strong focus on mobility and space control. Spider-Man offers high aerial mobility and precise dodging, Ms. Marvel uses shape-shifting long-range attacks, Star-Lord zones with elemental guns and jetpack hovering, and Peni Parker pilots a mech suit with a large health pool and chaotic traps.

Fighting Avengers (Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Panther): A versatile squad with strong forward pressure. Captain America acts as a balanced fighter with ricocheting shield tosses, Iron Man combines aerial zoning with fast combos, Hulk compensates for slow movement with massive damage and a Gamma Rage gauge, and Black Panther (Shuri) delivers aggressive high-speed rushdown.\

Knights of Doom (Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin, Carnage): A team combining tactical zoning and aggressive pressure. Doctor Doom controls long range with plasma beams, Magneto utilizes 8-way air dashes and magnetic fields, Green Goblin performs aerial glider attacks with pumpkin bombs, and Carnage can sacrifice his own HP for a temporary damage buff.

Unbreakable X-Men (Storm, Magik, Wolverine, Danger): A flexible lineup for arena control. Storm keeps her distance using wind and lightning, Magik utilizes a magic sword and teleportation stepping discs, Wolverine executes fast ground attack strings under Berserker Rage, and Danger dynamically alters her effective damage radius based on screen position.

Samurai Outriders (Ghost Rider, Blade, Loki, Deadpool): A squad tailored for mid-range combat. Ghost Rider controls space with his chain while building a Vengeance gauge, Blade combines firearms and edged weapons under the Marked for Death buff, while detailed gameplay specifications for Loki and Deadpool will be revealed by the developers later.

The developers have not yet revealed detailed characteristics for Loki and Deadpool, but confirmed that each character will have their own set of unique mechanics, allowing players to create diverse team combinations and playstyles.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be released on August 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store). Arc System Works is relying on a combination of the studio's classic fighting game expertise with large-scale team battles and iconic Marvel heroes. The developers also confirmed that post-launch, the game will be actively supported with new characters, balance updates, and additional content as part of a seasonal model. This is intended to ensure long-term support for the project, catering to both casual players and the competitive esports community.
