A new and unexpected explanation has surfaced regarding why gamers never received a Bloodborne remake, a project the now closed Bluepoint Games studio reportedly wanted to develop.
According to a detailed report by Jason Schreier, Bluepoint Games approached Sony several times seeking approval to begin work on the remake but was repeatedly turned down. In early 2025, the Japanese corporation was reportedly open to the idea, yet the project was ultimately shelved due to firm opposition from FromSoftware, the creators of the original 2018 Bloodborne.
Additional insight came from well known insider Jeff Grubb. He claims that FromSoftware’s creative director and renowned game designer Hidetaka Miyazaki personally resisted the development of a Bloodborne remake. The reason was reportedly his dissatisfaction with the 2020 remake of Demon’s Souls produced by Bluepoint.
Although critics and players widely praised the American studio for faithfully preserving the original mechanics and locations while significantly enhancing the visuals and overall presentation, Miyazaki was allegedly unhappy with the outcome. Some observers suggest that his reaction appeared more like jealousy than constructive criticism. Another insider, NateTheHate, also confirmed hearing about Miyazaki’s negative stance toward the 2020 version of Demon’s Souls.
Notably, Sony fully owns the rights to Bloodborne, meaning there were no legal obstacles preventing the remake based solely on Miyazaki’s opinion. However, his authority and influence appear to carry enough weight that Sony chose not to move forward against his wishes.
As a Reminder, GTA 6 pre-orders may be hinted at in PlayStation Store.
