Bobby Kotick returns to big business and joins Skydance Corp board

Former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is back in the world of major corporate business. After leaving Activision Blizzard at the end of 2023, he has joined the board of directors of Skydance Corp, the new media giant formed through the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Kotick led Activision for more than 30 years and developed a highly controversial reputation during his tenure, while also turning the company into one of the biggest players in the global gaming industry. His attempt to become one of TikTok’s owners failed, but he has now found a new role in the corporate world.

Kotick has been appointed as one of Skydance Corp’s independent directors. The company highlighted his more than three decades of experience running public companies:

Bobby Kotick brings more than three decades of public company leadership experience, having led Activision for 32 years and transforming it into one of the most successful companies in the global gaming industry. He combined bold strategic moves, including the merger with Vivendi Games, with a disciplined approach to capital allocation and a consistent focus on delivering strong returns to shareholders.

The culmination of his tenure was the sale of Activision Blizzard to Microsoft for $68.7 billion, the largest deal in the history of the video game industry.

As an independent director, Kotick will be responsible in part for protecting the interests of all shareholders and helping ensure transparency across the corporation.

Skydance Corp was created through the combination of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. Their gaming divisions, Paramount Games and Warner Bros. Games, are also set to be combined into a single gaming unit.

Kotick has previously served on the boards of major companies, including The Coca-Cola Company and Yahoo!.
