Prime Video has officially cast Callum Vinson as Atreus in its upcoming God of War series adaptation. The actor is known for his roles in Chucky and Long Bright River.
In the series, Atreus is raised in a secluded forest cabin, largely cut off from the outside world and brought up by his mother Faye. He is a skilled archer with a strong bond to animals and a deep curiosity about life beyond his remote home. After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a distant and emotionally closed father he barely knows. Despite this, he longs for Kratos’ approval and is determined to prove that he is strong enough to survive in a brutal and dangerous world.
God of War is led by writer, showrunner and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, best known for Outlander and For All Mankind. The story follows Kratos and Atreus as they journey to fulfill Faye’s final wish and scatter her ashes. Along the way, Kratos tries to teach his son how to become a better god, while Atreus pushes his father to be more human.
The series has already been ordered for two seasons, with pre production currently underway in Vancouver. Vinson joins a cast that includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Max Parker as Heimdall, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok.
God of War is co produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Frederick E.O. Toye, known for Shōgun and The Boys, will direct the first two episodes.
This marks Vinson’s third collaboration with Sony Pictures Television. He is also set to appear in the third season of Netflix’s The Night Agent and recently wrapped production on the Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.
