Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold more than 1 million copies on its first day of release. It is the first new mainline entry in the series in 20 years. Total sales across the Onimusha franchise have now surpassed 10 million copies.
The strong launch adds to Capcom's successful 2026 lineup. Resident Evil Requiem has sold over 8 million copies, while Pragmata has reached 2.5 million. Monster Hunter Stories 3 has also joined this year's releases. All four games have received strong critical reviews, with Metacritic scores of 85 or higher.
Capcom's next major release will be the Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon's Dogma 2, launching on October 9 alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game.
The publisher also confirmed plans to bring more older franchises back, expanding its lineup beyond major series such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter.

The company is working to further maximize corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, including this title», — the publisher said in a press release.
Mega Man will be the next franchise to return under this strategy, with Dual Override scheduled for 2027. Fans have also been waiting for new Dino Crisis and Breath of Fire games for years, so their comeback may finally be closer than ever.
