Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 could get a Nintendo Switch 2 version

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, widely regarded as one of 2025's biggest gaming hits, could eventually make its way to Nintendo Switch 2. Sandfall Interactive has confirmed that the studio is interested in releasing the RPG on Nintendo's new console, although it is not yet certain that the hardware will be capable of delivering the experience the team expects.

Rumors about a Switch 2 version first surfaced earlier this year through insider NateTheHate, and the developers have now addressed the possibility themselves. Speaking with Automaton, Sandfall Interactive co-founder and CTO Tom Guillermin said the studio is actively exploring the idea but described it as a significant technical challenge.

According to Guillermin, the team placed a huge emphasis on the game's visuals and artistic presentation, making it difficult to compromise for less powerful hardware.

«It’s a big technical challenge because we tried to do something beautiful with the game, but of course, the Switch 2 is not as powerful as the PlayStation or the Xbox Series X. So, it’s an important thing for us to consider, especially given the size of our studio».

CEO Guillaume Broche also stressed that it is still too early to make any announcements.

«We are interested in looking for a way to do it, but it’s too early for us to announce anything at this point».

The developers added that several Unreal Engine 5 features are not yet fully supported on Switch 2. However, they hope future Epic Games updates and technologies will improve the situation and make a port more feasible.

For now, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 remains a possibility rather than a confirmed project. Sandfall Interactive says it wants to bring the game to the platform but will only do so if it can meet the studio's visual and performance standards.
