Complete Hytale Farming Guide from Seeds to Harvest

In Hytale, farming allows players to grow crops that can be used for cooking ingredients, valuable resources, and decorative items. While the system itself is not complicated, it may feel confusing at first for players who are new to the game’s progression mechanics.

This guide explains the entire farming process step by step, from setting up farmland and crafting tools to planting seeds, enriching soil, and harvesting crops efficiently in Hytale.

Getting Started with Farming

To begin farming, players need to craft the Farmer’s Workbench. This is a dedicated crafting station used to create farming tools, seeds, and other agriculture related items.

The Farmer’s Workbench is crafted at a regular Workbench using 6 tree logs of any type and 20 plant fibers.

Crafting Farming Tools

Once the Farmer’s Workbench is ready, open the Farming tab and craft the essential starter tools:

Any materials stored in chests within six blocks of the crafting station can be used directly for crafting without moving them into your inventory.

How to Obtain Seeds

Seeds are required to plant crops. In Hytale, seeds can either be crafted at the Farmer’s Workbench or found as loot inside world chests.

At Tier 1, the Farmer’s Workbench only allows crafting Wheat and Cabbage seeds, meaning early farms usually focus on these two crops. Additional seed types become available as the workbench is upgraded.

Both Wheat Seeds and Cabbage Seeds require 2 Essence of Life to craft.

Collecting Water

Before planting, it is recommended to secure a water source. Locate a lake, river, or pond using the world map and use a Wooden Bucket to collect water.

Bring the water back to your farm and dig a one block hole nearby. Pour the water into the hole to create a permanent refill spot for your watering can.

The Watering Can must be refilled after every 20 uses.

Planting Crops

Equip the Crude Hoe and till dirt or grass blocks by right clicking. Only suitable soil can be tilled, while blocks like stone or marble cannot be used for farming.

Once the land is prepared, select the desired seeds and plant them in the tilled soil. Water the crops using the Watering Can to increase growth speed by 2.5 times.

If you have access to the Fertilizer Bag, unlocked at Tier 3 of the Farmer’s Workbench, fertilizer can be applied to further double the growth rate. One fertilizer bag can enrich up to five tilled soil blocks.

Crops will still grow without watering or fertilizer, but the time required increases significantly. For example, carrots take 30 minutes without enrichment, 10 minutes with water, and only 5 minutes with both water and fertilizer.

Harvesting Crops

Once a crop reaches full maturity, it can be harvested by pressing the Interact key F. Holding the key allows multiple crops to be collected at once.

Each harvested plant drops the crop itself along with Essence of Life. For example, harvesting 10 mature wheat plants yields 10 Wheat and 10 Essence of Life.

In very rare cases, players may also obtain Eternal Seeds while harvesting crops.

As a reminder, Control Resonant is open in structure but not a traditional open world game.
