On August 20, the second matchday of the playoffs concluded at the CS2 Esports World Cup 2026. Four Round of 16 matches and one quarterfinal took place in Paris. The day delivered several major upsets: Legacy eliminated NAVI, Falcons dealt with The MongolZ, and Vitality left no chance for FaZe. In the evening quarterfinal, FURIA defeated G2 and advanced to the top 4 of the tournament.
The day opened with a match between Falcons and The MongolZ. The Mongolian team was unable to continue their tournament run and lost with a score of 0-2.

On the first map, Falcons effectively destroyed their opponent, ending the first half with a 9:3 advantage, and after switching sides did not give up a single round. On Dust2, The MongolZ managed to put up a fight, but Falcons again proved stronger — 13:9.
Thus, Falcons advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face Legacy.
One of the main upsets of the day was NAVI's defeat to Legacy. The Ukrainian team failed to find their game and ended their performance at EWC 2026 in the top 8.
Legacy secured a 2-0 victory, not allowing NAVI to push the series to a third map.
For NAVI, this is a particularly disappointing result, as the team approached the playoffs with serious ambitions. Meanwhile, Legacy continues its sensational run and will play against Falcons in the quarterfinals.
Another high-profile match was the clash between FaZe and Vitality. The European roster of Vitality confidently closed out the series 2-0 and knocked FaZe out of the tournament.
The defeat also marks the end of EWC 2026 for Twistzz — the Canadian was unable to continue fighting for the trophy as part of FaZe. It was after this match that Twistzz spoke with journalists and discussed the team rebuilding, synergy problems, and prospects of the new roster.
Vitality now gets a quarterfinal matchup against Team Spirit.
Ukrainian fans were also following the matchup between B8 and Team Spirit. This time, no upset occurred — Spirit won 2-0 and continued their fight for the championship.
B8 failed to repeat their previous successes at the tournament, and Spirit, without needing to play a third map, secured their place in the quarterfinals.
In the final match of the day, the first quarterfinal took place. G2 met FURIA, and the series became one of the most intense at the tournament.

G2 started the series brilliantly, crushing their opponent on Ancient. However, FURIA responded instantly on Anubis with the exact same score — 13:3. On the deciding Dust2, the Brazilians were in complete control of the game and closed out the map 13:4.
Worth special note is YEKINDAR's performance, who finished the series with a rating of 1.45, while the best player for FURIA by rating was molodoy — 1.29.
FURIA becomes the first team to guarantee themselves a place in the EWC 2026 semifinals.
