Publisher EA and developers from Battlefield Studios have released the official trailer for the fourth season of the shooter Battlefield 6, which is scheduled for release on July 21. The central theme of the update will be large-scale naval battles, new locations, and an official collaboration with the Top Gun franchise, which is hinted at by a recognizable guitar motif at the end of the video.
The new gameplay focuses on naval combat. Players will be able to use various types of boats and weapons, attack enemies directly from the water, and coordinate actions with ground and air forces. The season's locations are designed around large bodies of water, which will expand opportunities for teamwork, improvisation, and flanking maneuvers. The content rollout will take place in three phases.
In the first phase, Pacific Front, which launches on July 21, the largest map in the franchise's history—Tsuru Reef—will be added to the game. This Pacific island, featuring steep cliffs, small islets, a luxury resort, and an old military bunker, will combine all three combat domains, including battles on aircraft carriers. A key mechanic will be the Dynamic Wave System, which will directly affect vehicle movement, lines of fire, and visibility.
The vehicle roster will be expanded with the 7.7M NSW RHIB and RCB-90 boats. Along with this, the developers will remove the Vehicle Key Card feature, and an updated Ranked REDSEC mode will return to REDSEC with a reworked scoring system and new cosmetics.
The second phase of the season, the collaboration with Top Gun (launching August 18), was created in partnership with Paramount Games Studio. The aircraft fleet will be expanded with jet fighters designed for dynamic, movie-style dogfights: the legendary F-14 Tomcat and F-18/Super Hornet, as well as special two-seater models, the F/A-81F Super Spectre and F-74A Seacat. The classic Wake Island map will also return to the game.
As part of the crossover, three characters from the movie will appear, fully voiced by the original actors: Lieutenant Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Lieutenant Robert "Bob" Floyd (Lewis Pullman), and Admiral Solomon "Warlock" Bates (Charles Parnell). The appearance of the main protagonist, Maverick (Tom Cruise), currently remains unconfirmed due to the actor's restrictions on using his likeness in video games.
In this phase, two new modes will become available to players:
- Carrier Strike: A team-based shooter featuring point capture across land, sea, and air, culminating in an assault on the enemy aircraft carrier.
- Top Gun: Fighter Sweep: A Gauntlet-type mode exclusively for jet fighters, set on the updated Tsuru Reef map in REDSEC.
Additionally, private lobbies and a special pre-match screen for team customization will be added to the Portal toolkit.
The final part of the season will offer a themed event with rewards for completing special naval missions. The developers will announce the exact date for this event later.
Actor Miles Teller called the collaboration a "clash of two legends" and noted that it is a great honor for him to be part of the iconic game franchise. Battlefield 6 Executive Producer Ryan McArthur added that the high adrenaline and dynamics of Top Gun's aerial duels perfectly match the scale of battles that the Battlefield series is known for.
