EA SPORTS has officially unveiled the new installment of its football simulator, EA FC 27. The main new feature, which fans have been requesting for a long time, will be the introduction of a full-fledged open world.
The new mode is called The Grounds. It was first shown in the debut trailer and on the cover of the standard edition of the game. The Grounds will serve as a social hub inspired by the multiplayer zones from the NBA 2K series, where users will be able to meet other players and invite friends.
While navigating this space, you will control a created player. The location is divided into several districts with scattered football pitches, where various activities and minigames will be available. New customization options are also planned for the characters, including a selection of clothes and boots. It is currently unknown whether this avatar will be shared with the one used in the Pro Clubs mode.
The exact format of The Grounds remains unclear for now: it could be either a standalone mode or a complete replacement for the main menu. In the latter case, the hub would become a single gateway to access all key game modes—Ultimate Team, Career Mode, and Pro Clubs.
The open world will also be filled with thematic Easter eggs. Even in the first teaser, you can spot references to the TV series Ted Lasso and Alex Hunter—the protagonist of The Journey story mode, who last appeared back in FIFA 19.
