Some of the earliest known Fortnite gameplay footage has appeared online, offering a rare look at the game during a closed presentation at Comic-Con in 2012.
The five-minute video was recently uploaded to YouTube by Reddit user /u/kleuscher, who said they discovered it on an old USB drive where they had saved the footage back in 2012.
Kleuscher said that after uploading the footage to YouTube in 2012, they received a copyright strike from Epic Games.
The footage provides an early look at Fortnite Save the World and several ideas that would eventually become important parts of Fortnite Battle Royale. Resource gathering and wall building can already be seen in the presentation, alongside the game's early environments and designs.
Fortnite Save the World launched in 2017, with Epic Games describing it as a combination of Minecraft and Left 4 Dead. The studio initially planned to make the game free to play, but later shifted its focus toward the Battle Royale version of Fortnite.
Fortnite Save the World eventually became free to play in April 2026.
Hopefully, the discovery will encourage other players to search through their old archives and share even more footage from Fortnite's early development.
