Early Reviews of Code Vein 2 Are Mixed

Bandai Namco Entertainment has launched extended access to Code Vein 2 the sequel to its anime soulslike series and the game has already received its first wave of feedback from both players and critics.

At the moment Code Vein 2 holds a mixed rating on Steam. Peak concurrent players have surpassed 9 200 users. The main criticism from the community focuses on the game’s technical condition. Players report poor optimization, stiff and unnatural animations, as well as a combat system that many consider unfinished. Some fans of the original note that the sequel feels less polished compared to the first game, although positive impressions are also present. The lack of a cooperative mode and the shift toward an open world structure are mentioned separately, both of which have sparked divided opinions.

Specialized media outlets have also responded to Code Vein 2 without much enthusiasm. The game currently holds an average score of 72 on Metacritic and 75 on OpenCritic. Reviews often describe it as a stylish and potentially interesting sequel with intriguing mechanics, but one that requires additional work on combat, narrative, and technical performance. Journalists reviewing the PS5 version also point out noticeable performance issues.

The full release of Code Vein 2 is scheduled for January 30. The game will launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.

Code Vein 2 Review Scores:

«Code Vein 2 is a masterfully crafted sequel that significantly elevates the series, enhancing its unique systems through intuitive accessibility and extensive build customization options. By combining an engaging story with refined combat mechanics, the game firmly establishes its own identity and delivers an outstanding soulslike experience» — This Is Game 84/100.

«Code Vein II greatly expands on the original’s ideas, offering stronger companions, more flexible character progression, and a more engaging narrative, even when it leans toward melodrama» — CGMagazine 70/100.

«Unfortunately, Code Vein has seen very few improvements. Despite the time travel element, the game fails to keep up with the times; its systems feel outdated or poorly implemented. The world is incredibly empty, and even a cool steampunk style motorcycle cannot save it. The RPG elements work well until boss fights become excessively overwhelming. From a technical standpoint, the game is a complete disaster» — PC Games 55/100.
