ESL One Munich 2027 Announced for Dota 2 With a $1,000,000 Prize Pool

Tournament organizer ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) has officially announced ESL One Munich 2027 for Dota 2. The tournament will take place from April 4 to 11, 2027, in Munich, Germany. Sixteen international teams will compete for a $1,000,000 prize pool, the largest in the current ESL Pro Tour (EPT) season.

The decisive stage of the event, featuring a live audience, will run from April 9 to 11 at BMW Park. One of the venue's standout features is its interactive glass LED floor, which allows visual effects and in-game statistics to be displayed to the audience in real time.

The tournament has received direct support from the government. Bavaria's Minister of Digital Affairs, Fabian Mehring, and Munich's Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Development, Christian Scharpf, emphasized that the agreement is part of a strategy to attract international investment in the digital entertainment sector. EFG representative Tobias Fjellander also noted that the venue's technical capabilities would enable new approaches to broadcasting Dota 2.

ESL One Munich is positioned as the premier mid-season tournament and a key event in the EPT ecosystem. The results will directly affect seeding and invitations for teams competing at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh.

EFG's major announcement highlights the growing competition among leading tournament organizers following Valve's discontinuation of the Dota Pro Circuit system in September 2023. Meanwhile, the substantial prize pools offered at Tier 1 events stand in contrast to the financial instability facing esports organizations themselves. For example, earlier this year, Norwegian organization HEROIC was forced to disband its entire Dota 2 roster due to financial pressure, despite achieving strong competitive results in the South American region.
