Back in July, Bethesda confirmed that four Fallout projects are currently in development. The main team is working on Fallout 5, another studio is handling remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, while Obsidian is developing a brand new spin off.
However, Xbox may have even bigger plans for the franchise. According to recent rumors, the company, now led by Asha Sharma, has reportedly approved yet another Fallout project.
During a podcast with Deyton Dykes, Windows Central journalist and insider Jez Corden claimed that inXile Entertainment, the studio currently finishing work on Clockwork Revolution, is also developing a game set in the Fallout universe. He noted that the project is still in a very early stage of development, meaning there is no guarantee it will eventually be released.
The report has generated extra excitement because of inXile's history. The studio was founded by Brian Fargo, who established Interplay in 1983 and is one of the original creators of Fallout. Fargo also worked on legendary RPG franchises including Baldur's Gate, The Bard's Tale, and Wasteland. His most recent major title, Wasteland 3, embraced many of the ideas that defined the first two Fallout games, leading fans to speculate that a new project under his leadership could bring the franchise back to its classic RPG roots.
