According to new reports, the long-awaited continuation of The Mummy franchise starring Brendan Fraser has finally received an approximate production start window.
The project will reportedly be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known for the successful reboot Scream (2022) and the horror film Abigail. It has been confirmed that not only Brendan Fraser will return as Rick O’Connell, but also Rachel Weisz will reprise her role as Evie.
Pre-production is set to begin in May 2026, while principal photography is scheduled for August 2026.
The theatrical release of The Mummy 4 is planned for May 19, 2028.
The directors also confirmed that the new film will not treat the events of the 2008 movie (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) as canon, following its negative reception. Instead, the upcoming film will serve as a direct sequel to the first two installments.
As a reminder, Minecraft Dungeons 2 is set to release in Fall 2026, with the first details of the large-scale sequel already revealed.
