Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director on Physical Release: "I Did My Best"

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi commented on the situation surrounding the game's disc edition, assuring fans that he made every effort to secure a physical release. However, due to the developer's limited authority and the decisions of the publishing team, the game will launch on a single disc containing only the opening sections, requiring players to download the remaining files online.

In an interview with Radio Times, Hamaguchi noted that he fully understands the frustration of gamers adhering to the "no disc, no purchase" stance. He emphasized that he personally loves collecting physical copies and getting signatures from colleagues. However, according to him, a director's duty is to ensure an engaging and high-quality gameplay experience, whereas product line-up (SKUs), distribution formats, and sales remain the responsibility of the publisher.

Thanks to internal negotiations between Hamaguchi, the publishing team, and first-party partners, they managed to at least agree on a single-disc release. The developer stressed that he views collecting physical media as a wonderful culture worth preserving and expressed hope for the community's understanding in this complex situation.
