First Details About the DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC Revealed

After the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages last year, id Software shifted its focus to developing a large story expansion. The DLC is included in the Premium Edition and can also be purchased separately through the Digital Premium Upgrade.

During a recent stream on Slayers Club Live, game director Hugo Martin shared the first details. According to him, the team is building a truly масштабне DLC that feels more like a full sequel in terms of scale and scope.

Martin emphasized that the expansion is substantial and features a section with metroidvania elements. Players will revisit previously explored areas, unlocking new zones and additional activities after completing the main path. Once the core storyline is finished, players will gain special tools that grant access to endgame content within already explored levels.

The DLC will introduce a dedicated hub location filled with secrets and hidden opportunities. The developers are intentionally making some mechanics challenging to master, as fully understanding one of the tools will require time and practice. However, as Martin noted, once players grasp its potential and learn to combine it with other abilities, the gameplay experience will noticeably evolve.

The team is also placing strong emphasis on environmental storytelling. Martin admitted that most fans come to Doom primarily for its fast paced action, but stressed that the universe of the series continues to grow. In the new expansion, the developers aim to deliver a cohesive narrative experience, not just a collection of cutscenes, but an immersive feeling shaped by atmosphere, level design details, and interaction with the world.

Additionally, Martin confirmed that the DLC will feature rapid environment transitions, though players will need to earn access to this mechanic. A release date has not yet been announced, but more information is expected in the coming months.
