Christopher Barrett, the former game director of Marathon and Destiny 2, has confirmed that he has reached a settlement in his lawsuit against Sony and Bungie.
In 2024, Barrett was removed from his position following allegations of inappropriate conduct and communications. The veteran developer maintained that he had been wrongfully terminated, describing the companies' actions as a "deliberate scheme."
According to Barrett, Sony and Bungie sought to avoid paying approximately $45 million in compensation allegedly owed under his employment agreement. In response, he filed a lawsuit seeking $200 million in damages.
As reported by GamesRadar+, Barrett announced the resolution of the dispute in a LinkedIn post. The financial and legal terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
In a joint statement, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Bungie, and Christopher Barrett confirmed that all legal proceedings between the parties have been fully resolved. The companies also officially acknowledged Barrett's contributions to the development of Marathon. His name will be included in the game's credits as the original game director.
