Epic Games has officially announced the launch of a massive crossover between the popular battle royale Fortnite and Christopher Nolan's new feature film, The Odyssey. The announcement was made via a brief 12-second cinematic featuring the tagline "for some, every game is its own epic journey." The video showcases scenes inspired by Homer's epic poem, where the classic Trojan Horse is cleverly replaced by a reindeer figure.
The main highlight of the collaboration is the arrival of character skins from the movie featuring the likenesses of famous actors. Two key skins will be introduced to the game:
- Odysseus — a character with the face of actor Matt Damon.
- Agamemnon — a hero portrayed by actor Benny Safdie.
Rumors also point to a potential future release of a Penelope skin (played by Anne Hathaway), though this information has not yet been officially confirmed by the developers.
Gamers have two ways to add these new exclusive looks to their collections:
- For free by participating in a tournament: From July 15–16, the game hosted a free tournament called The Odyssey Cup across Battle Royale, Zero Build, and Reload modes for mobile players. Top-performing players in their respective regions secured early access to the Odysseus skin, the Xiphos pickaxe, and the Bow of Iphytus back bling. Additionally, participants could earn a themed King's Helm spray and the Trojan War loading screen by accumulating placement points.
- Purchasing from the in-game shop: All players who did not participate in the competition or failed to make the leaderboards can purchase the Odysseus and Agamemnon skins in the Item Shop starting July 18 at 03:00 AM Kyiv Time—coinciding with the film's official premiere in theaters.
This is not the first time the acclaimed director has worked with the gaming platform. Previously, Fortnite hosted the world premiere trailer for the movie Tenet on its virtual Party Royale island. Back in 2020, the developers also held special in-game screenings of Nolan's iconic films—Batman Begins, Inception, and The Prestige.
The current collaboration is part of a larger strategy by Epic Games, which has planned more than 30 pop-culture events for this year. This launch also coincides with the ongoing summer DC Universe event.
Reminder, analysts predict GTA 6 could generate up to $5.2 Billion in launch week revenue.
