Online debates about the greatest game in history never seem to end. Everyone has their own opinion, and there are countless rankings and evaluation methods. However, GameRant decided to take a straightforward approach and launched a poll that has already gathered more than 270,000 participants.
The outcome was hardly surprising. The top spot went to Red Dead Redemption 2. While every title from Rockstar Games is widely praised, this 2018 release stood out thanks to its deep narrative, incredible attention to detail, and cohesive gameplay systems that enhance immersion.
Second place was taken by the dark and challenging Elden Ring from FromSoftware, which helped bring the souls-like genre to a much wider audience.
In third place is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt Red, a game that redefined open-world RPGs. Another title from the studio, Cyberpunk 2077, landed in eighth place.
Fourth place went to the iconic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The list also includes two entries from The Legend of Zelda: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in sixth place and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in ninth.
Former PlayStation exclusives God of War and Ghost of Tsushima also made the list.
The GameRant poll is still ongoing, so lower rankings may change over time, but the leader seems firmly established. According to players, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains the greatest game of all time, and it is hard to argue with that.
