Alkimia Interactive is wrapping up work on Gothic Remake while staying committed to preserving the feel of the original RPG. The team has deliberately removed the minimap to avoid breaking immersion, leaving players to navigate using maps and the in game journal.
Game director and studio head Reinhard Pollice told PCGamer that the team is “very strict” about avoiding modern navigation systems. Instead of markers, players will explore the Colony using environmental cues and physical maps, just like in the original game. At the same time, the journal will provide more detailed information to help locate characters and destinations more efficiently.
According to the developers, the lack of intrusive UI elements encourages players to study the world more carefully and remember routes, strengthening immersion in the Nameless Hero’s story. The studio has also avoided adding unnecessary activities like minigames to keep the world focused.
At the same time, some systems have been expanded. The remake will feature more crafting options including alchemy, scroll creation, and cooking, while blacksmithing has been reworked. Character customization has been removed in favor of the canonical protagonist. The English script has also been revised to sound more natural and closer to the original German version.
NPC behavior has received special attention as well. Their daily routines remain intact, but reactions to player actions have been improved so characters adapt more dynamically as events unfold.
The game is set to launch on June 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
As a Reminder, Crimson Desert soundtrack is now free to claim on Steam.
