Grok 4.6 created a 3D shooter autonomously in 48 hours

Elon Musk continues to showcase the potential of autonomous software development. This time, Grok 4.6 spent two days creating a full 3D shooter without any human intervention.

The experiment caught Musk’s attention after developer Matt Shumer demonstrated the use of so called Gauntlet Loops. This is a workflow in which an AI agent continuously creates code or content, tests the result, identifies problems and makes corrections, repeating the process for an extended period.

During the 48 hour marathon, Grok 4.6 produced a first person shooter featuring a 3D environment, character movement, shooting and a weapon reload mechanic. According to Musk, Grok 4.6 is currently the “objective leader” in intelligence, speed and computing cost.

This is not the first time Musk’s AI projects have ventured into game development. In 2025, Grok 4 demonstrated that it could generate a Doom style shooter from a single prompt. Later, Grok Build was used to create cyberpunk style browser racing games with working physics and vehicle selection using just one prompt.

The previous Grok 4.5 model also allowed users to create simple FPS projects in less than an hour, while 3D home planners could be generated within minutes. However, Gauntlet Loops represent a different level of autonomy, as the AI can analyze its own output, test it and gradually improve the project.

At the same time, companies are expanding the infrastructure needed for AI development. Recently, Tim Cook opened a factory in Texas that will manufacture servers designed for artificial intelligence workloads.
