Hasbro has canceled the development of a new game based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe. The project was being developed by Giant Skull under the leadership of game director Stig Asmussen, known for leading development on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and God of War III.
The project was officially announced in June 2025 as a collaboration with Wizards of the Coast, but development was halted less than a year after the reveal.
A representative from Wizards of the Coast stated that the company “evaluates concepts at every stage of development.” While the publisher decided not to move forward with Giant Skull’s original concept, the team expressed “great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team.”
The canceled project was planned as a high-budget single-player action-adventure game that would have offered players an opportunity to explore a new Dungeons & Dragons universe, featuring a deep narrative, cinematic combat system, and open-world traversal.
This marks the second recent cancellation connected to the franchise. Earlier, Starbreeze Studios also halted development of its game under the codename Project Baxter.
Recall that Embracer Group recently announced its split into two companies and the creation of Fellowship Entertainment.
