HBO is developing a television adaptation of the Baldur’s Gate video game series, according to Variety.
Craig Mazin, co-creator and showrunner of HBO’s hit video game adaptation The Last of Us, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. The story will take place directly after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Part of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise, the first Baldur’s Gate game was released in 1998. Baldur’s Gate 3 debuted in 2023 and achieved major critical and commercial success, becoming the first game in history to win all five major “Game of the Year” awards and surpass 15 million players.
