Hello Games releases major The Swarm update for No Man's Sky featuring large-scale space battles

Hello Games has launched the massive The Swarm update for No Man's Sky. The patch arrives ahead of the game’s upcoming tenth anniversary, with its central theme focused on a global threat — the enormous Glass Hive looming over planetary systems.

To combat the new danger, the developers introduced a faction system. Upon logging into the game, players complete special tests that assign them to one of three factions. These groups must coordinate their efforts to resist the cosmic anomaly known as the Nexus.

Each faction’s progress is tracked on a dedicated leaderboard and within the Galactic Atlas, while the most successful faction’s name will be permanently immortalized in the game.

The centerpiece of the update is a series of massive space battles. The Glass Hive generates defensive swarms of robotic drones, resulting in clashes involving hundreds of ships simultaneously. The Hive itself is equipped with a gigantic laser capable of destroying space stations and cargo fleets. This mechanic encourages players to gather their forces in the same region of the universe to repel the threat together.

The update also expands planetary gameplay. Using a gravity cannon, players can investigate wreckage from destroyed drones, collect resources, and study technologies used to sabotage the Hive network.

By participating in the defense of the universe, players can unlock:
