The Elder Scrolls 6 is still expected to launch before 2030, but fans should not expect it anytime soon. During a recent Bloomberg Q&A, well known industry insider and journalist Jason Schreier shared an updated estimate for the game's release.
According to Schreier, the RPG is still "2 to 3 years away at least." If that timeline proves accurate, Bethesda's long awaited sequel would likely arrive in 2028 or 2029. That would put nearly 20 years between Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls 6, while almost 12 years would have passed since the game's original announcement in 2018.
A recent development update also indicated that nearly the entire Bethesda Game Studios team is now focused on The Elder Scrolls 6. At the same time, Xbox is pushing Bethesda to deliver more games from its biggest franchises, including The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, following the company's ongoing business restructuring. However, recent layoffs affecting Bethesda could make that goal more difficult to achieve.
Schreier is not the only insider pointing toward this release window. Earlier this year, Windows Central's Jez Corden also claimed he had heard that The Elder Scrolls 6 was targeting a 2028 or 2029 launch, roughly one or two years after the first Fallout remaster. If those reports are accurate, fans could see a Fallout remaster arrive next year before the next mainline entry in the series.
Of course, game development remains unpredictable, meaning new reports, rumors, or official announcements could emerge throughout 2027, 2028, or 2029.
Meanwhile, Bethesda director Todd Howard has previously suggested he regrets revealing The Elder Scrolls 6 so early. He joked that fans have probably forgotten about the original landscape teaser and said he wishes the studio had taken a more casual approach to announcements. Bethesda has handled Fallout 5 in a similar way, mentioning the project only occasionally without building major expectations among fans.
