The discussion specifically concerns traditional single player showcase titles. While such plans were previously rumored, the journalist says these are now real intentions from the company. The key issue appears to be that PC port revenues do not offset the loss of console audience.
Renowned games journalist and market analyst Jason Schreier believes that Sony may abandon the practice of releasing PlayStation console exclusives on PC. According to him, this is not mere conjecture, and he plans to elaborate on the topic in an upcoming article.
Speaking on the Triple Click podcast, Schreier questioned whether Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games will ever be released on PC. He later clarified his stance in comments on the ResetEra forums, stressing that his remarks were based on more than speculation.
«I get the sense that they are moving away from putting their exclusive console games, the traditional single player ones, on PC. Even if that is not the case, we can see that Wolverine is coming out on September 15 and it is not coming to PC, only to PlayStation 5. I would not be surprised if it never comes to PC», — the journalist said.
Schreier added that Sony’s current PC strategy appears to focus mainly on live service titles. He suggested that limited commercial success of previous ports may be driving this shift.
«I am not sure how successful these PC releases really were. I do not think it was such a huge success. It does not seem like this [pulling back from PC ports] would be a massive blow. Commercial success is the key question. It is entirely possible that they put the genie back in the bottle».
Following the strong reaction to his comments, Schreier further clarified his position:
«I mean, this is not speculation, but sometimes topics come up on the show before I am ready to publish an article about them. I am sure there will be more soon».
As a Reminder, The release of Resident Evil Requiem has set an all-time series record for peak concurrent players on Steam.
