The first full trailer for “Madden” has been released — a biographical film about John Madden, the legendary NFL coach and commentator whose name became synonymous with one of the most recognizable sports video game franchises.
The movie follows Madden’s journey from coaching the Oakland Raiders to becoming one of the most famous voices in American football. After leaving coaching, he built a successful career as a television commentator before entering the world of video games.
In 1988, Madden began working with Electronic Arts, sharing his football knowledge with the developers. This collaboration led to John Madden Football, which eventually evolved into the long-running Madden NFL franchise.
Madden wanted the game to accurately represent real football. One of his key demands was that it should feature full 11-on-11 gameplay, rather than a simplified version of the sport.
The film will also explore the creation of the game. John Mulaney plays EA founder Trip Hawkins, while Nicolas Cage portrays John Madden. Christian Bale plays Raiders owner Al Davis, and Kathryn Hahn portrays Madden’s wife, Virginia.
The movie is written and directed by David O. Russell.
