Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Open Beta Has Concluded: What the Developers Showed and What Content Awaits Players

The open beta testing for the team fighting game Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls from Arc System Works and PlayStation has officially concluded. It ran from July 24 to July 26, 2026, on PC and PlayStation 5, giving players their first chance to try out the new fighting game ahead of its release, scheduled for August 6, 2026.

During the playtest, participants had access to 16 playable characters and six arenas for 4v4 team battles. The developers originally planned to feature a roster of 15 fighters, but shortly before the beta launched, Green Goblin was unexpectedly added to the lineup. Players were also able to test Iron Man, Spider-Man, Magneto, Blade, and other iconic Marvel heroes.

The beta version included several modes that allowed users to familiarize themselves with the game's core features. Players completed training in Startup Battle Tutorial mode and gained access to the first three chapters of the Episode Mode story campaign, where the narrative begins with Spider-Man assembling his team.

The developers paid special attention to the technical details of the test. On PlayStation 5, a PlayStation Plus subscription was not required to participate, whereas PC owners were required to link a PlayStation account.

Alongside the conclusion of the beta test at San Diego Comic-Con, Arc System Works unveiled the first content for Year 1 of post-launch support. In Fall 2026, Phoenix Cyclops will join the roster—a special version of Scott Summers inspired by the Avengers vs. X-Men comic storyline, in which the hero acquired a portion of the Phoenix Force as one of the "Phoenix Five."

In addition, the developers announced a collaboration with Insomniac Games. As part of this crossover following the game's launch, all players will receive the exclusive "Wolverine Battle Reborn" costume for Wolverine for free, inspired by the studio's upcoming PlayStation 5 title.

Now that the open beta has wrapped up, the developers will focus on final polishing based on player feedback. The full release of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will take place on August 6, when the game becomes available to all PC and PlayStation 5 users.
