G2 player Matus MATYS Simko gave a short interview to Players correspondent Sofiia Pikhalo during media day ahead of the IEM Kraków 2026 playoffs in CS2.
Congratulations with the playoffs, and could you please tell me about your emotions about that?
For us it was very close when we played yesterday a lot, Dust 2 decider and it was against team spirit. Kind of upset but at the same time we understood how much we improvement we have compared to the last season, especially in the end. Mostly because of the game, how we managed to step up as individuals in tough moments, help each other more, we are happy to be we don’t have to stop before the quarter finals and we will try no matter what to go further.
What did you get from the matches you win or lose in this tournament?
I think confidence, I think it’s not in play of individuals, but to have sometimes solutions or basically to show balls when it’s most necessarily.
The roster changes in G2 happened about six months ago. From your perspective, what has changed since then? Comparing previous roster and yours.
I think completely different players because obviously sometimes when you change the players in the team you can change the chemistry in the team. I came from the wholly different psychology in the team before the Fnatic and G2, it was big adaptation for me.
What are your main goals for this year?
Individually for sure to be consistent
Do you believe success is more about raw talent or obsession and dedication to the game?
Second, 100%. Dedication always beats talent no matter what. There are many more talented players but there were examples where they didn’t succeed, didn’t have the drive.
And what about you? Do you have more obsession or dedication?
I think both, for sure.
If you had to pick one player for your team, would you choose s1mple or ZywOo? Why?
I’d say Zyw0o, nothing s1mple has already matters after CS:GO. When I think about CS:GO I would choose s1mple, he is gonna scare the opponents. Right now I choose Zyw0o.
What’s the most cringe or awkward story you’ve experienced at recent events if you had any?
Interview where I had to name US states, I was so bad at states,I think I named 4 or 5 and then they have probably 40 or 50 states in the US.
