Microsoft has started testing a new cloud gaming access format called Cloud Playtime. This initiative allows users to play online without the need for an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
During the preview phase, special introductory playtime pricing is available for Xbox Insiders:
- 10 hours — $3.99
- 25 hours — $7.99
- 50 hours — $11.99
The company notes that these packs provide an ad-free gaming experience, high-quality streaming, and reduced wait times. Purchased time does not expire and remains available until fully used.
Cloud Playtime can be used on any device that supports Xbox Cloud Gaming. While the availability of streaming games will depend on the region, users will easily be able to launch their purchased games as well as free-to-play titles.
This update applies not only to new players but also to active Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Since Microsoft announced the introduction of cloud usage limits earlier this year, Cloud Playtime packs will allow users to conveniently purchase additional time after exhausting their base limit.
The feature is currently available for testing by Xbox Insiders to gather feedback and resolve bugs. A full public release for Cloud Playtime is scheduled for November of this year. It remains unknown whether the pricing of the packs will change after the official launch.
