Following MKOI's crucial victory over FNATIC in the 2026 LEC Summer Split, the team's mid laner Joseph "Jojopyun" Pyun shared his thoughts on the roster's current state. In the interview, he discussed overcoming in-game issues, the head coach's influence, and his ambitions for the remainder of the season.
According to Jojopyun, the team showed less fear of taking skirmishes in the match against FNATIC. This opponent was an ideal test, as FNATIC also favors an aggressive playstyle without a deep focus on macro. MKOI managed to successfully force fights and weren't afraid to commit fully to teamfights.
At the same time, the player admitted that he continues to work on his own mistakes in the late game. He explained this as a result of being overly reactive: sometimes he spots a playmaking opportunity and proceeds to execute the plan, even when the situation changes against the team's favor in a matter of seconds. Such decisions often lead to throwing the lead that MKOI consistently builds in the early game.
Despite the fact that MKOI's teamfighting might look chaotic from the outside, Jojopyun is not worried ahead of upcoming tournaments. He noted significant progress in the trust between players and is confident that the team is on the right track to restoring its top form.
Crowd pressure is also not a problem for the mid laner. Playing in front of hostile fans at the KC Roadtrip only gave him more motivation. Jojopyun prefers loud arenas and real pressure over quiet studio matches, treating the booing as a normal part of the competitive show.
Discussing the poor start to the season (a 0-3 record in the Summer Split and 0-7 including the EWC), Jojopyun remains optimistic. He is certain that the current leaders—G2 and KC—are entirely vulnerable and beatable.
The esports athlete emphasized that MKOI traditionally ramps up their form closer to the playoffs. The team knowingly goes through early-split struggles to fix mistakes and peak during the crucial matches. Jojopyun's main goal is to secure his first title this year.
Special attention was given to the comments of former MKOI player Zeph, who recently called the team's atmosphere "military." Jojopyun disagreed with this characterization, comparing coach Melzhet's approach to traditional sports instead.
"It is very competitive within the team, and there is a lot of passion. If things go badly, Melzhet is not afraid to say what he needs to say. On other teams, a lot of coaches don't really take full leadership. For us, it's a traditional sports mentality, where there is accountability for the result," Jojopyun explained.
At the end of the interview, the MKOI mid laner commented on the release of League Classic. Although he had experience playing back in Season 4, Jojopyun doesn't plan on returning to the classic version, as he lacks strong nostalgia and believes that the format gets boring quickly.
