Netflix has revealed Unhinged, its upcoming first person psychological horror game from Night School Studio, the developers behind Oxenfree.
The streaming giant has previously experimented with video game projects, mostly through interactive live action experiences, but Unhinged takes a more traditional approach. The game will use your smartphone as a controller and features a star studded cast from both Hollywood and the gaming industry.
In the game, the lead role is played by Troy Baker, known for his roles as Joel in The Last of Us, Jonesy in Fortnite (he voiced the character Jonesy in the game Fortnite, which is one of his video game roles), and Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (he voiced the main character in that game). Sadie Sink has also joined the cast; she rose to fame for her role in Stranger Things and will appear in the upcoming film Spider Man: Brand New Day.
Among other stars in the project is also Zoe Kravitz, known for her role as Catwoman in The Batman and for voicing Mary Jane in Spider Man: Into the Spider Verse.
ОOne of Unhinged’s main features will be using your phone to receive calls and text messages, as well as exploring the environment with a virtual flashlight.
The full game will take less than an hour to complete, but the developers aim to make Unhinged replayable through different narrative paths. Game director Sam Warner told Rolling Stone that the project was heavily inspired by Nintendo Wii and DS.
«I grew up with those, and I think that focus on novel innovative play was something that we really started this game with. If you’ve got Netflix and you have a phone, then this is for you», — said Sam Warner.
Unhinged launches on Netflix on June 30.
