Publisher Random House Worlds, together with Wizards of the Coast, has announced an expansion of the Baldur's Gate 3 universe through a new line of print releases. The centerpiece is a full-length novel dedicated to one of the game’s most popular characters — the vampire elf Astarion.
Titled Baldur’s Gate 3: Astarion, the novel will explore the dark period before his abduction by mind flayers, focusing on the two centuries he spent serving Cazador Szarr.
The book is written by T. Kingfisher (the pen name of Ursula Vernon), a Hugo and Nebula Award winner. The story was developed in close collaboration with Stephen Rooney, senior writer at Larian Studios and the original creator of Astarion.
The audiobook version will be narrated by Neil Newbon, whose performance as Astarion earned him Best Performance at The Game Awards 2023.
The novel Baldur’s Gate 3: Astarion is scheduled for release on September 29, 2026.
Additional themed releases include:
- The Necromancy of Thay — a replica-style journal inspired by the game’s infamous book, featuring an embossed skull design.
- The Official Baldur’s Gate 3 Coloring Book — a 40-page coloring book with illustrations of fan-favorite companions.
- The Official Baldur’s Gate Cookbook by Andrew Wheeler.
