On November 2, it was officially announced that the fighting game FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves will return to the Esports World Cup (EWC) in 2027. The title will be featured at the tournament for the third consecutive year.
This decision follows the successful 2026 championship in Paris, which confirmed the high value of this game for esports organizations within the EWC ecosystem.
The reigning 2026 champion is NAVI. In the grand final, their representative Luis Guadalupe "DarkAngel" Castillo Gomez defeated Kenta "mi2ha4" Ichihara from Virtus.pro. With this victory, the player earned $250,000 in prize money and secured 1,000 Club Championship points for NAVI.
A high level of competition is expected in the 2027 season. Competing for the title will be:
- Leading global organizations fielding strong rosters, including NAVI, Virtus.pro, Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto, and REJECT.
- Renowned veteran players, such as Goichi "GO1" Kishida and Zeng "xiaohai" Zhuojun.
Retaining FATAL FURY in the EWC lineup for a third year is a strong signal demonstrating the stability of fighting games at major esports events. Such consistency allows organizations to confidently invest in long-term City of the Wolves rosters and reliably plan their strategy for earning Club Championship points.
