Opening cases in CS2 will be banned in Germany — only X-ray scanners will be available.

In Counter-Strike 2, an obligatory X-ray scanner for opening cases will be introduced for players in Germany starting March 16, 2026.

This system allows players to load only one container into the scanner and immediately see which item is inside. In other words, the element of randomness essentially disappears — the player first sees the skin and only then decides whether to claim it.

After previewing the item, it must be “claimed” to free the scanner and use it for the next case. Along with the scanner, players will receive a one-time non-tradable Genuine P250 | X-ray skin, which must be claimed before the scanner can be used for the first time.

Valve made this decision due to strict German regulations regarding loot boxes, which are considered a form of gambling. Some players are concerned that a similar system could eventually be introduced in other European countries, which might make cases less attractive.

As a reminder, NaVi Junior won their first CS2 tournament in 2026
