Overwatch Season 5: A Grim Doctrine Has Launched — Key Changes and New Features

On October 6, Overwatch released its massive fifth season titled A Grim Doctrine. Alongside general balance changes, the main addition is the arrival of Doctrine — a new Support class hero. The developers made adjustments before the character's official release, reducing his attack speed and tweaking his ultimate ability. Role changes affected other heroes as well: Sombra now officially belongs to the Support roster, and Roadhog received a major rework of his abilities, which is expected to significantly impact the competitive meta. The game also introduced its first new Escort map in a long while — Watchpoint: Grimsvotn.

Coinciding with the season's launch, the free Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games event has begun and will run until November 2. By participating, players can earn a variety of rewards, including the Legendary Inflatable Reinhardt skin, 16 Loot Boxes, as well as player icons, sprays, name cards, a weapon charm, a title, and voice lines. Concurrently, from October 6 to October 19, a limited-time collaboration with Shadow Monarch is taking place in the in-game shop. Exclusive skins available as part of this include:

Regarding cosmetic content, the themed Battle Pass allows players to earn two new Mythic skins — Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang and Treblemaker Lucio. The pass also includes ten new skins, notably Ghostly Belle Ashe, Jack O’Ripper Soldier: 76, and Ghost Bride Mei. A significant update for collectors is the introduction of the Unvaulted Passes system, which allows players to unlock content from previous seasons they might have missed. The update is already live on the servers.
