Swedish developer Paradox Interactive, known for series such as Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings, and Stellaris, is preparing to unveil its next strategy game. The official reveal of Afterworld is expected during the opening ceremony of gamescom 2026, which begins on August 25 at 20:00 CEST.
The company has so far kept details about the project under wraps, teasing fans only with a countdown on its official website. However, the game's name briefly appeared on the Paradox forum ahead of the presentation. Users also discovered a short description of the upcoming strategy on the company's Discord server:
Lead a tribe of survivors, rediscover ancient technologies, manage settlements across the wastelands, and wage wars and political battles in Afterworld, an original grand strategy game about survival in a post-apocalyptic world.
Paradox has experimented with a variety of settings over the years, but a post-apocalyptic world has yet to become a major part of its portfolio. If Afterworld delivers the same level of depth and complexity associated with the developer's best grand strategy titles, it could offer a particularly fresh direction for the studio.
