Players Praise DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations | DLC Earns Better Reviews Than the Base Game

Following a major wave of layoffs, id Software has released Revelations, the first and most likely only expansion for DOOM: The Dark Ages.

The DLC had a rocky launch, with players reporting technical issues and bugs during its first hours. However, the developers quickly addressed the problems with updates, and the expansion has since received an overwhelmingly positive reception. Many fans even say they enjoy it more than the original game.

Revelations continues the story of DOOM: The Dark Ages, sending the DOOM Slayer into a frozen version of Purgatory. The expansion offers roughly 10 to 12 hours of gameplay across six large levels built around Metroidvania style progression. New abilities and equipment gradually unlock previously inaccessible areas, while players also gain access to new weapons, additional demon types, and the DLC's signature feature, the Chain Spear. Replacing the shield, it allows for wide sweeping attacks while still letting players block incoming strikes and deflect projectiles.

At the time of writing, DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations holds an 86% positive rating on Steam based on 473 user reviews. Players praise its faster paced combat, which many compare to Doom Eternal, a story that shows a more human side of the DOOM Slayer, a solid soundtrack, and they have also expressed strong support for id Software.

DOOM: The Dark Ages and the Revelations expansion are available now on PC via Steam and Battle.net, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles.
