Post-Apocalyptic Survival RPG Scavland Enters Early Access on September 4

NoShadow studio has announced the release date for their new game, Scavland — a top-down post-apocalyptic survival RPG with shooter elements. The project will launch in Early Access exclusively on Steam on September 4. The release follows six years of development, during which the creative team has more than quadrupled in size.

The game is dubbed a "love letter" to hits like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro, as well as the classic MMORPG Tibia. The events of Scavland unfold in the fictional region of Zalesye, which has been ravaged by war and shrouded in a mysterious Mist. The player takes on the role of a "Vulture" — a scavenger trying to survive by gathering the remaining resources of the old world.

The project combines pixel art graphics with unforgiving hardcore mechanics and is entirely focused on a PvE experience. Players will have to explore abandoned settlements, descend into underground bunkers, and navigate procedurally generated dungeons. The further you venture from the safe zone, the more dangerous the world becomes.

The gameplay requires completing complex tasks and battling mutants alongside bloodthirsty raiders. To survive successfully, you must constantly replenish supplies, craft new equipment, and build trusting relationships with local factions.

The developers paid special attention to accessibility: Scavland is already fully optimized for controller play and supports the Steam Deck handheld console.

Interestingly, Tibia served as the primary source of inspiration for the game's visual style. As one of the developers noted, his journey into game development began 16 years ago with a simple desire to draw a custom pixel-art sword for a modded Tibia server, and this influence will be noticeable in many aspects of the new project.
