The controversial satirical shooter POSTAL 2 is making a comeback with a heavily upgraded version. Impact Reality, Flat2VR Studios, Team Beef, and Running With Scissors have announced that POSTAL 2 Redux will launch in spring 2027. The developers also revealed new screenshots showing off the game's modernized visuals.
The team says the remake will stay true to the original's core concept rather than radically changing its gameplay or story. Players will once again follow the POSTAL Dude through a seemingly ordinary week that can quickly descend into chaos, gunfights, and complete madness.
POSTAL 2 Redux has been rebuilt in Unity 6, with its major systems redesigned for modern hardware. The upgrade will include:
- high-resolution textures, improved lighting, shaders, and materials
- smoother movement through Paradise thanks to a new level streaming system
- smarter and more reactive NPCs that respond to the player and their surroundings
- reworked combat and physics
- improved interiors with more environmental destruction
- support for modern controls, gamepads, ultrawide displays, and an updated interface
- an upgraded version of Champ, the POSTAL Dude's loyal dog, with new ways to interact with him,including petting him, bringing him along, and putting him to use in chaotic situations
Impact Reality CEO and co-founder Jasmine Uniza highlighted the importance of player freedom in the updated game:
«At its heart, POSTAL 2 Redux is a sandbox in the truest sense: players decide how each day unfolds, playing their way from mild-mannered to mayhem, in a living, reactive world where no two playthroughs are ever the same»
She also confirmed that Champ will return alongside the POSTAL Dude with additional interaction options.
Running With Scissors founder and CEO Vince Desi added:
«When we made the original POSTAL 2, we set out to build something that didn’t exist anywhere else, a game defined by total player freedom. It filled a need, and we blew some minds along the way. More than 25 years later, we wanted to bring modern technology and game systems to that original vision, and the response from the community overwhelmed us. We’ve been hard at work to deliver exactly that, and to bring it to more platforms like PS5, and here we are. We can’t wait for players to get their hands on it»
POSTAL 2 Redux is being developed with strong community involvement. The project was funded through Kickstarter, reaching its funding goal within a single day.
The remake will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, and Meta Quest. Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions are planned for a later release.
