PS5 PlayStation Store Is Preparing Major Changes

Sony is currently testing a redesigned PlayStation Store interface on PS5, featuring significantly larger visuals along with several new elements. If these changes eventually roll out to all users, which has not been officially confirmed yet, it would mark the biggest overhaul of the store in more than five years.

The company appears to be working on another major redesign. A new PlayStation Store interface is already being tested with select beta users. The first look surfaced on April 11, when X user Gaming_bo3gg shared a screenshot of the Browse tab. Unlike the current dense «All Games» grid built for quick scanning, the new version highlights fewer titles using large horizontal cards. This shift prioritizes a more curated experience, similar to the modern Netflix interface.

More detailed game information and tags

Although the top carousel now features fewer games, each title includes more detailed information. Notably, descriptive tags have been added to highlight genres and features. For example, People of Note is labeled with tags such as «RPG», «turn-based combat», «stylized», «story-rich», «colorful», and «3D». Meanwhile, Starfield carries tags like «open-world», «RPG», «story-rich», «cinematic», and «space exploration». Each card also includes a short one-line description acting as a quick pitch.

Mood and genre-based browsing

The beta version introduces new browsing sections based on mood and genre, placed below the carousel. This is another Netflix-inspired feature, following similar experiments by the streaming platform in spring 2025. The overall tab structure, including sections for new releases, collections, deals, and PlayStation Plus content, remains unchanged. For now, the updated interface is limited to PS5 and select beta users. Sony has not publicly commented on the changes, and there is no indication of a full rollout timeline.

Autoplay trailers

Another reported addition is related to how users interact with game tiles. When a title is highlighted, its trailer is said to start playing automatically. It remains unclear whether the videos are muted by default, although that would align with modern UX standards.

As of April 12, the new PS Store layout is reportedly live for some beta users in Europe and North America. Separately, Sony is also testing a new PS5 home screen design, seemingly available to the same group of users.
