The well-known esports commentator MonteCristo was the first to report the new layoffs at Riot Games in the early hours of February 26, 2026.
These are the second round of layoffs in February 2026. On February 9, the company announced the dismissal of approximately 80 employees from the fighting game 2XKO team — half of the global development team. Riot assures that it will continue supporting 2XKO with a smaller but focused team, with plans for key updates and an unchanged 2026 competitive season. Laid-off employees receive at least six months’ salary, as well as the option to move to other positions within the company.
The latest layoffs at Riot Games did not affect the development or support teams for key games: VALORANT and League of Legends.
As a reminder, The second part of Subway Surfers has now been officially released.
