Saudi Arabia has acquired full ownership of the Evo fighting tournament series.

RTS, a company owned by the Saudi mega-project Qiddiya City, has officially completed the buyout of all ownership stakes in Evolution Championship Series (Evo). As a result, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Indian company NODWIN Gaming have fully exited the ownership structure.

RTS is now the sole owner of the Evo brand and all events held under the Evolution Championship Series banner. This move is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader “Vision 2030” strategy, which aims to transform the country into a global esports hub.

Qiddiya’s Chief Strategy Officer, Muhannad Aldawood, stated that the acquisition will help Evo “reach new heights” and fulfill the ambitions of the fighting game community. Management has pledged to preserve the tournament’s “values and identity,” while current RTS CEO Stuart Saw will remain in his position to ensure stability.

The news has sparked mixed reactions among fighting game fans. While the new owners promise growth and major investment, part of the community has expressed concern over Saudi Arabia’s human rights record and the potential impact on the inclusivity that Evo has always prided itself on.
