Sony Patents a Buttonless Game Controller

Sony Interactive Entertainment has secured a patent for an unconventional controller that features no physical buttons at all, according to recently published regulatory filings.

Instead of traditional inputs, the device relies on touchscreens combined with additional sensors. These components can detect finger positioning as well as taps, long presses, and swipe gestures. The collected input data is used to dynamically illuminate and configure virtual controls on the displays. This approach allows the interface to adapt based on how the user holds and interacts with the controller. The patent illustrations showcase this experimental PlayStation controller design.

As a reminder, Xepher, who competed at TI10, reached the M7 MLBB Grand Final.
