In the third quarterfinal of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 CS2 tournament, G2 were defeated by Spirit, allowing the latter to secure a place in the semifinals.
The match began on Overpass, where the European side managed to claim a 13-9 victory. The series then moved to Dust2, where G2 fell in overtime with a score of 14-16.
Everything came down to Mirage, which lasted an incredible 47 rounds — the equivalent of nearly two full maps. The decider featured four overtimes, with Spirit eventually emerging victorious 25-22.
Unfortunately for G2, the defeat means their elimination from the tournament.
IEM Cologne Major 2026 is taking place from June 2 to June 21 in Cologne, Germany. The tournament features a prize pool of $1.25 million.
As a reminder, ESIC is preparing a new wave of bans in CS2, with former players also expected to face sanctions.
